Our Mission

The Gilford & District Horticultural Society was founded in 1979 and we are affiliated with the Ontario Horticultural Association (District 16).

Our aim is to encourage and provide information on all forms of horticulture, to beautify the community by planting and maintaining flower gardens and trees, to provide interesting youth programs and to support all efforts to protect our environment.

The South Innisfil Arboretum, which we are also looking after, occupies 9 acres on the north east corner of Shore Acres Drive and the 20th Sideroad in Gilford.

The Arboretum has been developed and maintained by G&DHS volunteers for the enjoyment of the community. The Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority contracted the land to the Society in 1994 for 20 years. The Town of Innisfil, in accordance with rules established by the Conservation Authority, monitors its use.

Go to www.southinnisfilarboretum.ca for more information or just click on the last button to the left.

Our monthly meetings are held from March to November, where the members are treated to interesting speakers, flower and design shows, a draw table, and last but not least, a well stacked coffee and snack table. Look under 'Meetings' for more information.
